Honor Band

honorsHonor Band is the flagship performing group for the Stafford Sound Machine.  Membership is open to students who have completed one year of Beginning Band and through audition, demonstrate the skills and work ethic to represent one of the best performing groups in DFW.  Honor Band students meet daily in a full concert band setting.  Students will continue building fundamental musical skills as well as increasing their self-confidence, expressing themselves through music and working together as a unit.  Students are expected to practice 30-40 minutes daily and will have the opportunity to perform in a variety of events throughout the school year.  Students will be invited to several optional social events throughout the school year as well.  Participation in Honor Band will properly prepare students for success in high school band.
Honor Band students will meet once a week outside of the school day for their weekly sectional.  This time will be scheduled around other school functions.

Personal Training is strongly suggested and for Honor Band members due to the challenging level of music performed.  This one-on-one instruction is crucial to the development of our young musicians.  Financial assistance is readily available to families in need.

Please note:  There is NO conflict between students participating in both band and athletics.  A vast majority of our students participate in both events successfully.  The band directors and coaches work extremely well together to make sure students are successful in both endeavors.

Symphonic Band

symphonicMembership to Symphonic Band is for students who have completed one year of Beginning Band and through audition, demonstrate the skills necessary to be successful in a fast paced group.  All Symphonic Band students meet daily in a full concert band setting.  Students will continue building fundamental musical skills as well as increasing their self-confidence, expressing themselves through music and working together as a team.  Students are expected to practice regularly and will have the opportunity to perform in a variety of events throughout the school year.  Students will be invited to several optional social events throughout the school year as well.  Participation in Symphonic Band will properly prepare students for Honor or high school band.  Symphonic Band students will meet once a week outside of the school day for their weekly sectional.  This time will be scheduled around other school functions.

Beginning Band

The Beginning Band is made up of students who are learning to play an instrument for the first time.  You do not need any previous musical training to be in Beginning Band.  All you need is a positive attitude.

Students in Beginning Band meet in like-instrument classes (i.e. clarinet, trumpet, etc.) daily to learn the basic fundamentals of their specific instrument.  this course covers assembly and care of instruments, proper playing posture, tone production, music reading and awareness of rhythm and pitch.  Participation in band teaches students how to work together as a team, builds self-confidence and creates a social outlet to make life-long friendships.  Students will be screened by a director for physical and facial characteristics to place them on the instrument best suited for their success.  Students are expected to practice regularly and will perform in four(4) required concerts throughout the year.  There are no more than four(4) outside-of-the-day practices the entire school year!  Band students are invited to attend several social events throughout the school year as well.

Students will also have the option of participating in the personal training program.  This program provides one-on-one instruction with a professional musician.  Students participating in personal training program are generally four to six weeks ahead in instruction.  Financial assistance is readily available to families in need.
Available instruments: Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium, Tuba and Percussion.

Spartans of Swing (SOS)

sosJazz Band is open to any 7th or 8th grade musician currently enrolled in band who has completed one year of Beginning Band. Students will learn the basic styles of stage band music (swing, shuffle, rock, fun and ballad) as well as develop the skills to improvise music while working as a team.  Improvisation allows students to express themselves through music and build self-confidence.  Students are expected to practice regularly and will have the opportunity to perform in a variety of events throughout the school year.  Participation in Jazz Band will properly prepare students for high school jazz band.  Personal Training is highly encouraged for Jazz Band members due to the challenging level of music performed.  This one-on-one instruction is crucial to the development of our young musicians.  Financial assistance is readily available to families in need.
